Vanessa Barragao
(1992)
Vanessa Barragão (b. 1992) is a textile artist, based in Portugal, raising
awareness on pollution and climate change through her creations, as well as
the importance of a circular economy and the need of upcycling on our daily
routines.
Her works are handmade, using artisanal techniques and wastes from the
portuguese textile industry. Most of these wastes had been sitting in the back of textile factory’s warehouses, taking up lots of much needed space, before heading to a landfill.
Her beautiful creations and ecologist vision have rendered hundreds of thousands of followers and have made an impact on how people perceive the devastating consequences of 'fast fashion', incentivizing those who admire her works to create sustainably and upcycle as much as they can on their daily routines.
