Ben Cooney

Ben Cooney's (b.1980) paintings are open ended invitations into a place of otherness, where fantasy and reality blur, and the notions of identity, perception and desire are questioned and explored. The work often starts out intuitively with no fixed destination, nodding to the Symbolists and waving at popular culture along the way, before arriving somewhere that can initially appear soft and playful, but a second look typically reveals an air of disquiet bubbling away beneath the surface. Cooney is a self taught artist whose work has been exhibited in group exhibitions internationally and online. He currently live and paint in Sheffield, UK.
