BNOMIO
José Luis Pérez Ramos aka Bnomio plays with duality in all his creations, from his stage name to his passion for black and white. His inspiration, he says, was found in the world of traditional tattooing, the urban movement, American aesthetic culture, the occult, and secret societies. His work consists in a process of abstraction in which he tries to reinterpret the aesthetic imagery that has influenced him, and rebuild it through simple lines and geometric patterns, keeping only the essence of a raw image. His minimalist style, with a very defined linecraft and the absence of color in almost all of his work, creates the monochromatic style of his illustrations that makes him so recognizable.
In his manifesto Tear away the mask, strongly linked to the image of the skull, Bnomio talks about authenticity, about how people hide behind a mask, especially on social media. The skull is something that makes us all the same, regardless of where we come from.
After studying at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trades No. 2 in Madrid, Bnomio has worked for more than 20 years as an art director in communication agencies and studios. As an artist, he has collaborated with brands such as Levi’s, Instagram, Adobe, Footlocker, Vans or Citröen. His tattoo designs are in high demand internationally, especially in Mexico where he has a large community of followers.
