Eduardo Matamoro Irago studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he graduated in Painting and Engraving. He began to exhibit his work at a very young age, in 1984, in the Caixavigo gallery in Vilagarcía de Arousa. He joined the Atlántica group in 1985. He has had solo and group exhibitions in many cities in Spain and all over Europe, especially in Italy. He obtained the "Xóvenes Valores" grant from the Diputación de Pontevedra and from the Talleres de Arte Actual, from the Círculo de Bellas Artes, Antonio Saura, Madrid. He also obtained the Colmeiro scholarship, that of the Spanish-American Joint Committee of New York, in 1988, and that of the Academy of Fine Arts, History and Archaeology of Rome, in 1990. His work was acquired at the I Mostra Unión Fenosa and he won a second medal at the Pontevedra Biennial in 1990. His painting is completely informalist, although at times vague iconic references of a dreamlike nature can be sensed, which can be related to the world of Odilon Redon. Whimsical graphics, an impossible object inscribed in an ideal space, successive stains calculatedly harmonised, are his peculiar world. His material is variegated, almost corporeal at times. The currents of so-called "Minimal Art" have influenced his peculiar plastic concept. He is represented in institutional collections in
Galicia and Italy.
