Gus Monday

(UK, 2000)

Originally from London, but grew up in South Africa. The artist moved back to London to study fine art at City and Guilds of London, coming straight from graduating from a BA in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London). Since 2023 Monday has been continuing his education at the Royal Collage of Art doing an MA in Painting. Furthermore, the artist has been nominated for the New Blood Emerging Art Prize (2023) and for the Hari Art Prize (Shortlist) (2023).

Monday's work is largely centred around drawing and sketching. His paintings are representations of spaces utilising coded narratives and symbols, some observational whilst others autobiographical. From public transport, to bars, bedrooms and internet sites these are spaces that are interacted with and act as a platforms for topics to be revealed about contemporary life-styles.
