Jose Luis Carranza
(Peru, 1981)
José Luis Carranza, a prominent Peruvian painter, explores the relationship between nature and humanity through an apocalyptic and irreverent gaze. His most recent work, La razón dormida (2020-2023), pays homage to Francisco de Goya, reinterpreting key pieces by the Spanish master in oil paintings that subvert anatomy and reflect stark and visionary visions. Carranza, known for his mastery of drawing and painting, combines technique and boldness to depict deformed beings and chaotic landscapes, asserting his heretical and free style.
