Kuril Chto

Kuril Chto (b. 1989) works in a wide range of media, including drawing, painting, digital drawing, ceramics, sculpture, urban interventions, and performance. Pulling intuitively from the world of social networks, memes, news, advertising, and everyday life, he creates ironic and absurd narratives that often revolve around a series of everyday objects.
Through his art, Kuril probes difficult, often controversial and painful topics and themes that underlie contemporary society.
Kuril Chto was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Over the last 5 years, he has resided and worked in Lisbon, Portugal. Currently pursuing a master’s degree in painting at the New York Academy of Art, with an expected graduation in 2024. Kuril has exhibited his work in Basel, Lisbon, Saint-Petersburg.
