María Yzaga
(Perú, 1995)
Maria Yzaga is a multidisciplinary artist interested in self-discovery. The artist makes use of personal symbols resulting from her fascination with objects that relate to her female body, and pictorial representation methods that involve giving free rein to the unconscious. Her practice is performative in nature employing methods inspired by children's play, making gestural paintings that preceed the image and collage as a automatism logic to work in the construction of images and objects.
Maria began her studies at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (2014-2016) and graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Holland (2016-2020).
Her work has been presented in the group exhibition “In search of the invisible” at Revolver gallery in New York, and in art fairs such as PARC Lima and ArteBA Buenos Aires and Object Rotterdam.
