Marius Seidlitz
(Germany, 1985)
Seidlitz's artistic practice is shaped in many ways, blending his skill as a master engraver with the precise approach of design and the free, creative use of oil paint. His expressive images often emerge from a diverse range of bodies that are deliberately imperfect. The viewer is drawn into colorful curves and multi-layered nudity, revealing all the garish contradictions—between attraction and repulsion—yet always multidimensional, always dynamic, and never overly precise.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Entangled bodies, suggested limbs, and hinted lips dissolve into color-rich surfaces and dynamic lines. Using acrylic and oil paints, Seidlitz challenges the notion of self-presentation. His bodies appear naked, revealing the soul in its raw form. Human beings, he suggests, are both complex and simple, always in a state of becoming.
"Today, beauty is often defined by societal standards influenced by popular culture, media, and advertising. These standards encompass specific body types, facial features, and skin tones, as well as trends in fashion, hairstyles, and makeup. However, it is important to recognize that these societal standards of beauty are constantly evolving and can vary significantly between different cultures and communities."
