Menchu Lamas
(Spain, 1954)
Menchu Lamas, one of the most prominent Galician painters, is an established artist, with a strong personality and career within the world of fine arts. In the 1980s, together with Antón Patiño, he created the “Atlántica” movement, formed by a group of artists who managed to place Galician art within the international panorama of the moment and energize the visual arts in Galicia.
His work is found in museums and public collections such as the CGAC Centro de Arte Contemporáneo in Santiago de Compostela, Los Bragales Collection (Santander), MNCARS Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid), MACBA Museum of Contemporary Art (Barcelona) and Collection of Contemporary Art La Caixa (Barcelona).
“When color breathes, the painting vibrates and takes shape” said Menchu Lamas in her recent entry into the Royal Galician Academy of Fine Arts, as a full academician of the Painting and Engraving Section.
