Mónica Figueroa
(Mexico, 1991)
Mónica Figueroa, (CDMX, 1991) Studied Visual Arts at the Faculty of Arts and Design of the Nacional Autonomous University of México. His work focuses mainly on drawing and painting and has been exhibited in individual exhibitions in Mexico and group exhibitions in Mexico, Germany, the United States, Austria, Romania and Slovenia. She has received the scholarship from the SACPC Young Creators program on three occasions and was selected for the José Anastasio Monroy Painting Biennial, the XXXVII National Meeting of Young Art, and the 1st National Painting Prize "Ángel Zárraga", in the painting biennials. “Julio Castillo” and “Fermín Revueltas” have held residencies in Déficit Pintura, Guadalajara, Jilotepec, State of Mexico, with the La Guerrera project in CDMX and in La Ceiba Gráfica, Xalapa, Mexico.
She participated in the Salón Acme art fair in 2024. Has two publications of drawings: "Éxodo de Ultramar", printed in La Maquinucha Ediciones del IAGO (Oaxacan graphic arts institute) and "Espejo de piedra", printed by S.A.R.A (self-managed reproduction anonymous society) CDMX. She lives and works in Oaxaca since 2017. See her work as an opportunity to imagine and conjure a utopian reality with an anti-patriarchal value system. Her drawings and paintings contain scenes of women and agender beings that coexist and hybridize with natural phenomena, organic materials and animals.
