Papartus

Papartus (Merindad de Río Ubierna, Burgos, 1956) is a Spanish artist currently based in Madrid, known for his vibrant expressive force and distinctive material density with Baroque elements. His work stands as a statement of principles, celebrating creative freedom beyond the dictates of the market, addressing life in all its richness and diversity. As critic Rosa Olivares notes, "the experience accumulated over time and the passion for painting are what we see in his works: fragments of life and emotions of a painter."

Papartus has held solo and group exhibitions in various cultural centers and galleries in cities such as Madrid, Zaragoza, Augsburg (Germany), Pamplona, Barcelona, Lisbon, Asturias, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Málaga, and Segovia. He has participated in Spain’s most important art fairs, including Estampa and ARCO, from 2000 to 2021, showcasing his work both nationally and internationally.

His work has attracted the attention of prominent art critics such as Rosa Olivares, Ernesto Castro, and Robert C. Morgan, among others. Papartus has been featured on the cover of major media outlets like ABC Cultural and has appeared in specialized publications such as El Mundo, Lápiz, Exit, and Arte Internacional.

His pieces are included in notable public and private collections, such as Yusaku Maezawa's Contemporary Art Foundation, Stefan Simchowitz’s SIMCO Foundation, the City Council of Pamplona, the Centro de Arte Tomás y Valiente in Madrid, the College of Architects of Málaga, and the Citibank Collection, among others.

One of his most notable exhibitions is Migas en las sábanas, a dual showcase held at the College of Architects of Madrid and the CEART (Centro de Arte Tomás y Valiente) in 2018, both curated by Robert C. Morgan. This project featured 40 pieces created over twelve years, presented in two complementary spaces that invite the viewer to explore the intimate and extensive work of Papartus in his studio.
