Rafael Trapiello
(1980, Madrid)
is a professional photographer, a member of the collective/agency NOPHOTO since 2014 and founding member of the collective Nación Rotonda. Civil Engineer from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, specialising in Urban and Territorial Planning (2008), he has been developing his professional career as a photographer since 2006. His publications include the books 2013 (together with Jonás Bel), Nación Rotonda (together with his fellow members of the collective) in the publishing house PHREE (finalist for the best book of the year at PhotoEspaña 2016), Miércoles de Misericordia (finalist for best book of the year at PhotoEspaña 2019), also published by PHREE, and Solovki, together with Juan Manuel Castro Prieto, National Photography Prize 2015 (Auth'spirit, 2019) His work has been exhibited, among other places, at the PhotoEspaña 2014 photography festival, at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia (2015, 2019 and 2021), at the Spanish Pavilion of the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale (2016), winner of the Golden Lion at that edition, at the Lianzhou Foto 2017 photography festival (China), Centro de Arte Alcobendas (PhotoEspaña 2019), Sala El Águila (Madrid, PhotoEspaña 2019), Centre Fotogràfic La Llotgeta, (Valencia, 2019), at the Centro José Guerrero de Granada, (Granada, 2020), at the Revela'T festival (Barcelona, 2020) and at the Auditorio de Galicia (Santiago de Compostela, 2021). His work is present in several prestigious collections, such as the DKV collection, the Candela Álvarez Soldevilla collection and the Tamayo-Autric collection. His work moves between the documentary and the poetic. He mainly deals with themes of a social and territorial nature, as well as themes related to memory, complementing his own images with other resources such as his own or other people's own or other people's texts, archive images, images obtained from the Internet, video, audio...
