Rafael Trapiello
(Spain, 1980)
Born in Madrid, in 1980, he is a professional photographer, member of the collective/agency NOPHOTO since 2014 and founding member of the collective Nación Rotonda.
Civil Engineer by the Polytechnic University of Madrid, specializing in Urbanism and Land Management (2008), he has been developing his professional career as a photographer since 2006. Among his publications are the books 2013, together with Jonás Bel (editorial PHREE), Nación Rotonda, together with his colleagues of the collective (editorial PHREE, finalist for best book of the year in PhotoEspaña 2016), Miércoles de Misericordia (editorial PHREE, finalist for best book of the year in PhotoEspaña 2019), and Solovki, together with Juan Manuel Castro Prieto, National Photography Award 2015 (Editorial Auth'spirit, 2019).
His work has been exhibited, among other places, at the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg; Russia (2015 and 2019); at the Spanish Pavilion of the XV Venice Architecture Biennale (2016), winner of the Golden Lion of that edition; at the Centro de Arte Alcobendas (PhotoEspaña 2019); at the Sala El Águila (Madrid, PhotoEspaña 2019); Centre Fotogràfic La Llotgeta, Valencia, 2019; at the Centro José Guerrero in Granada, 2020; at the Auditorio de Galicia, Santiago de Compostela, 2021.
His work belongs to several prestigious collections, such as the collection of the Centro de Arte Alcobendas, the DKV collection, the Candela Álvarez Soldevilla collection or the collection of the Fundación Campo Cerrado.
He is an artist represented by the Arniches 26 gallery since 2021.
He has published in numerous national and international media such as El País, La Vanguardia, El Mundo, XL Semanal, Libération (France), Lenta (Russia), Al-Jazeera, National Public Radio (USA), Elsiever Juist (Holland), NRK (Norway)....
His work moves between the documentary and the poetic. His most personal work deals with the relationship of the human being with his environment, with his fellow men, with time, with memory, with death and with affections.
