Roman Manikhin
(Alemania)
Roman's works explore the correlations between the present moment and memories of the past. There is room for humor, mystery and love for others. The artist is curious to know if life is really as it is presented to us in our sense perception, or if it is all just a dream. He tries to make his art visually accessible by using bright tones and simple forms. From time to time he introduces some new characters to access his research subjects from fresh and unexpected angles.
Oil paint gives flexibility to his paintings and allows him to depict objects with the exact level of detail he needs. For the wood sculptures, on the other hand, he turns to his trusty chainsaw to juxtapose that roughness with the elegance of the canvas. It is his strategy to simultaneously achieve a sense of tension and balance. He tends to work in series, developing certain themes or issues that come to me in the process of daily meditation.
