Starsky Brines
(Venezuela, 1977)
The paintings and drawings of Starsky Brines are recognizable by their unique style and recurring theme: the search for the essence of man. The artist focuses on figures created by combining human and animal attributes in his expressive works. These figures distort reality and are reminiscent of the world of theater, where fantasy, poetry, and comedy often serve as catalysts for the creation of critical meaning. In his work, Brines questions the interaction between good and evil against the backdrop of Venezuela‘s socio-political reality. In doing so, Brines interprets his themes not as „black and white“ but multicolored, not linear but with charming breaks, thoroughly serious yet full of humor.Brines was art-historically influenced by Latin American figurative art, German Neo-Expressionism, the Italian Trans-Avantgarde, and the COBRA group,. His works are held in collections such as The Masaveu Collection (Madrid, ES) Sander Collection (DE / CH), Tobias Hauri Collection (Zurich, CH), Imago Mundi Collection (Turin, IT) Burger Collection (Hong Kong), Koo House Museum of Art & Design Collection (Seoul, KR) and the National Museum of China - among others.
Starsky Brines lives and works in Miami.
