Zoilo Blanca
(Spain, 1997)
Zoilo Blanca’s art explores the human body by distorting and exaggerating its forms, drawing inspiration from Baroque art and Greek sculpture. He was trained in a traditional academic style, paying close attention to precise lines and vivid chiaroscuros. However, he chooses to playfully bend the rules like a child, creating fragmented human forms with oversized features and damagedbodies that explore the ideas of strength and vulnerability in new ways.
As Zoilo puts it “I like art that is somehow tremendous, and creatures that are halfway between man and beast.”
In his human still lifes, human bodies are mixed with fruit, food, and everyday objects, creating scenes that feel both familiar and strange. This ironic take on art history blends respect and humor. His figures show a troubled state of mind, as if they were struggling to hold themselves together.
