Ana Barriga

With a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Seville, she currently lives and works in Madrid. Ana Barriga counts among her latest curricular achievements with the International Painting Prize of the Focus Foundation, the Plastic Arts Prize of the University of Seville, CICUS and Generations 2019, both achieved in 2017; she has been selected in different Residency Grants for creators and has pieces in collections such as the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) of Malaga or the DKV Collection.

In her work she tries to find the balance between reason and emotion, two apparently contradictory territories that, when they rub against each other, generate a type of energy that interests her. He tries to move in the realm of playfulness, a place shared by artists and children, where prejudices are abandoned and the most unexpected part of us comes to the surface. Humor, play or irony are ways of positioning ourselves before reality in a different and unexpected way, of breaking common patterns. This gives rise to unpredictable situations that are fresh and attractive to us because they do not conform to pre-established models.

Play is very important both in herwork and in the way he works, and this idea is evident in three main areas. In the elements represented: most of them are children's pieces, decorative objects or everyday objects, as well as in the way she treats and configures these elements: she paints, breaks, mutilates, assembles or composes them in such and such a way, as if she were a child.
